Description

The woodland sits on former agricultural land at the top of a hill and down the gentle valley side. There are panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, complete with a mosaic of fields, woodlands and isolated dwellings. It is set in a secluded location. The property comprises recently planted (spring 2012 and 2013) mixed broadleaved woodland, set amongst small areas of existing broadleaved woodland on land that slopes northwards down to a stream.

The new planting at the top field comprises oak, silver birch, alder, wild cherry, field maple, hawthorn and rowan. The new planting continues down the slope through adjoining fields towards the stream. In these fields the broadleaved planting comprises similar species, although the trees in these sloped fields are larger than the trees in the top field, a reflection of the wetter, more free-flowing, soils towards the stream. The woodland sits on former agricultural land at the top of a hill and down the gentle valley side. There are panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, complete with a mosaic of fields, woodlands and isolated dwellings. It is set in a secluded location.

Annual payments for the new planting are received by the current owner at £3,009 per annum under the Glastir Woodland Creation Premium. These grants last until 2027. These can be transferred to the new owner, but will not be apportioned. The most recent payment was January 2023. The new owner will be required to continue the Terms and Conditions of the Glastir agreement.

There are small areas of existing woodland between the new woodlands. These include mature boundary oaks, ash, sycamore and hazel. There are paths within the areas of existing woodland – such as an attractive tree and bank lined path leading west from near the adjoining property through the wood, running slightly upslope, and emerging near to the western boundary. The stream area (at the north of the wood) is most attractive, with moss covered trees and shrubs and a free flowing stony stream c.1-1.5m wide.

Access to the wood is through a locked gate off the stoned track. The track is noted as a road (Henfwlch Road) maintainable at public expense. The track is narrow, was resurfaced in 2023 and is passable by a road vehicle.

The paths within the wood and areas of Himalayan balsam have recently been mown.
