Description

The woodland comprises an intimate mix of semi-mature broadleaved and conifer species. The eastern side of the wood (14.08hectares) comprises an intimate mix of ash, sycamore, poplar and occasional oaks. There are also scattered clumps of western red cedar. The western side of the wood (also referred to as Coed Lygan Uchaf, 25.9acres) comprises a mix of broadleaves including beech, ash and hazel. Areas under the beech show large patches of bluebells and wild garlic and the western side generally has a more diverse ground vegetation.

There is a greater coniferous component in the western side of the wood. This includes larch, Douglas fir and Norway spruce that have been planted as clumps amongst the broadleaves. There are no deer in the wood or the immediate surroundings, and the natural regeneration of trees is good. There is potential for selective felling and thinning of the wood.

The wood is bisected by an attractive stream that flows north south. The stream is sinuous and deeply incised in places, with a stoney bed and earth banks. In any sale, a 5m right of vehicular access would be made from the eastern part of the wood onto the perimeter of the adjoining pasture fields, which is let to a tenant by the vendor, to the track by the farm. This access would be for all forestry purposes, include provision for a 30m by 5m temporary timber stacking area, and give access/egress to Wern Road. There are rights for timber extraction over field 1212 at the northern end of Coed Lygan Uchaf to the common land. A further right of access is reserved from the southern entrance to/from the road by Ruby Cottages. for further information, please contact the Selling Agent.

The wood forms part of a wider landscape mosaic of woodland and open farmland. The woodland can also be viewed from Wern Road. Here the woodland can be seen sloping into the small valley, and views of the wider landscape to the south west can be fully appreciated.
